Accommodations are made for one 1 1/2 hour visit per inmate per week. Visiting days and hours vary according to the Dallas County jail facility. Due to limited staffing, visitation is allowed Monday through Friday only. Inmates are informed of visiting days and hours and are responsible for relaying this information to those who wish to visit them.

  • Government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license, military identification, passport or state-issued ID card, must be presented by each adult visitor. Visitors who do not have proper identification will not be permitted to visit.
  • Anyone held in the Dallas County Correctional Facility within the past six (6) months will not be allowed to visit current inmates.
  • Visitors must be appropriately dressed. Shoes, shirts and appropriate underclothing must be worn. Visitors wearing suggestive clothing, transparent fabric, short-shorts or mini-skirts will not be permitted to visit.
  • No one under the age of 18 is allowed to visit inmates without a court order. Orders may be obtained by an attorney.
  • Visitors must remain in the assigned visiting room/area during the visit and will be denied further visitation if determined to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Visitors may not give anything to or take anything from an inmate.
  • Proper behavior of all visitors is required.

Guidelines for Inmate Mail:

  • Incoming mail is delivered to inmates Monday through Friday.
  • Inmate mail will not be accepted from any person who has been incarcerated in the Dallas County Jail within the previous six (6) months.
  • All incoming mail is opened and searched for contraband (such as money, checks, inappropriate photos, matches, lighters, cigarettes, jewelry, chewing gum, etc.).
  • Mail sent by privileged correspondence such as the inmates attorney, a judge, the govenor of Iowa, the citizen’s aid office and any member of the state or federal legislature may be opened by staff only in the presence of the inmate addressee for the purpose of detecting contraband and may not be read by staff.
  • Inmates may receive letters and cards.
  • Do not send cash or personal checks through the mail. Money in any form is contraband and will not be delivered to the inmate. All monies received in this matter will be posted to the inmates account.
  • Unauthorized items mailed to an inmate will be placed in the property room or disposed of as appropriate.
  • Inmates will receive items not disposed of upon their release.
